About Halo

With plans to spin-off from Unbabel at the end of 2024, Halo is about augmenting human communication with AI, focusing on helping people with the ALS disease. You will be able to observe first-hand the impact Halo has on patients with ALS and on their families while working in a fast-paced, fast-iteration environment with an immense opportunity to have an impact.

Our product is currently in the discovery stage, and we are looking for a Fullstack Engineer to join our team. What's the opportunity about?

As a Fullstack Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and deployment of Halo. You will be involved in all aspects of the software lifecycle, from backend development to frontend design, ensuring that our product is accessible and performant in constrained environments. Your work will have a direct impact on the direction and success of our product, while improving the lives of our users and their loved ones.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the backend using Python, focusing on FastAPI or similar frameworks.
• Design and implement responsive and accessible user interfaces using React and Next.js.
• Ensure software is optimized for accessibility in constrained environments.
• Collaborate with the team to handle product uncertainty and contribute to the discovery phase.
• Integrate and manage vector databases, RAG, and prompt engineering.
• Fine-tune and train small task-specific language models to enhance product capabilities, if interested.
• Design, implement, and maintain reliable architectures and services.
• Build, maintain, and scale Halo.
• Write clean, concise, testable, and maintainable code for both backend and frontend.
• Lead the development of new features.
• Integrate frontend apps with multiple services/APIs.
• Write and maintain tests to ensure high code quality.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot service performance.
• Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently, especially in time-constrained environments.
• Contribute to a culture of self-improvement and high standards of quality.

Requirements

• Proficient in Python and experienced with FastAPI or similar frameworks.
• Strong skills in frontend development using React and Next.js.
• An eye for detail and design, with a focus on accessibility.
• Comfortable working in a product's discovery stage and navigating product uncertainty.
• Knowledge of vector databases, RAGs, and prompting is a plus.
• Curiosity and ability to fine-tune and train small task-specific LLMs.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
